EMDR Therapy
What to Expect
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured, evidence based therapy that has been researched extensively and has been proven to be effective in the treatment of trauma.
EMDR involves asking clients to focus briefly on the traumatic memory while being exposed to bilateral stimulation. As the client holds the trauma in mind and follows the bilateral stimulation, the distress, negative beliefs, emotional and somatic experiences associated with the traumatic memory all decrease in intensity. The processing of the trauma allows the person to access more adaptive belief about themself and their world.
