Play Therapy

Play Therapy is a therapeutic approach which allows children to explore and give meaning to their inner experiences through play. Much like how talk therapy allows individuals to express their inner experience, play therapy provides children with a modality to express their inner world and their thoughts and feelings in a way that is developmentally appropriate.

What to Expect

While spontaneous play is a natural and essential part of the development, Play Therapy is guided by a clinician with specialized training in child development. Through play, therapists can teach children adaptive behaviours and coping strategies, promote cognitive development and facilitate a more positive view of self and the world. Play Therapy’s efficacy has been demonstrated with a variety of presenting concerns including but not limited to anxiety, grief and loss, depression, impulsivity, relational difficulties, trauma, and emotion regulation.
